Invitation Letter For Travel to Singapore

I know, it does sound funny.  Why would anyone needs to be invited just to travel to Singapore or to a certain country?

For some countries with tightened migration policies, the Immigration Officers (IO) of that country might be asking for an Invitation Letter (IL).  Usually, they would want this to be authenticated by the Embassy.

After checking-in your luggage,  you will pass through the IO.  Aside from doing the routine passport scans and documentation checks, they would sometimes ask you about your purpose in going to such country.  If you don't have any relatives in the country, they may ask for a confirmed hotel booking.  If you happen to have a relative there, they may ask you for an IL.

To this country's IO, the IL is supposed to prove that you have a relative their who can help or support you when the need comes.  And that you are going to this country for a holiday or vacation purposes only.

Another reason for this "Invitation Letter" thing is that the home country does not what you to work abroad without going through proper registrations and licensing.  The are doing this to avoid illegal human trafficking.


Here is my simple format of an INVITATION LETTER.

Both of them will be staying with me at my place. I will cover all the cost of their 14-day vacation here in Singapore including the two-way ticket, tours and shopping.

This invitation letter must come with a copy of the inviter's work pass (issued by Singapore's MOM) and passport.

You can just email this to the invitee's yahoo or gmail account.  It doesn't necessarily be signed.  But I would suggest that this be emailed FROM a company email account to give additional "strength" to it.  And if the inviter has a good position in the company, or at least it sound good, it's always better to state it in as well.

I have already given you the purpose of this invitation letter on the side of the home country's Immigration Officers.  But for the travelling person, probably a Job Hunter in Singapore, this invitation letter may just be a piece of tool to get-away from the hassles of going through the IO.

And the irony is, Singapore's Immigration Officers will NOT need it.
